Initiation to water-polo

The Sports Centre invites anyone who loves water and team sports to discover the ins and outs of this wonderful sport. Active kids will expend tons of energy learning basic water-polo moves while perfecting their swimming techniques.

Class details

Recreational water polo learning program for girls and boys aged 6 to 13.

6-9 years old

10 lessons of 75 minutes each

Prerequisite

The swimmer must be 6 years old as of the first day of the course and have completed the Red Cross Swim Junior 4 or demonstrate the skills and knowledge of Junior 4.

In this level

Introduction to passing, catching and shooting. Picking up ball from underneath. Introduction to body position. Water polo-specific skills, such as eggbeater, sculling, trudgeon, spider. Water polo stroke development (head-up front crawl, water polo backstroke).

Tuesday: 5:30 to 6:45 p.m.

10-13 years old

10 lessons of 75 minutes each

The swimmer must be 10 years old as of the first day of the course and have completed the Red Cross Swim Junior 6 or demonstrate the skills and knowledge of Junior 6.

In this level

Continued development of Level 1 skills at greater distance (15 – 25 metres). Introduction of new skills such as zigzag, rollover, sliding, stop-and-go with the ball. Introduction to shooting, receiving and passing for accuracy.

Schedule

Tuesday: 6:45 to 8:00 p.m.

Locker rooms can be accessed 20 minutes before the start of the course, and non-participants do not have access to locker rooms and are not admitted pool side. However, a parent may accompany their child to the locker room before and after the course.
